Comprehensive Dental Evaluations
For Patients in Tulsa
Your first visit with Canady Dental in South Tulsa will begin with a Comprehensive Dental Evaluation. We do this so we can get to know you as well as the condition of your oral health. After all, your mouth is the gateway to your entire body; maintaining its health is essential to your wellness.

Dr. Canady’s Comprehensive Evaluation may be unlike any dental exam you have received. We conduct this evaluation for every new patient and current patients every 3 to 5 years, or when changes in oral health occur.
Together, you and Dr. Canady will gain valuable insights as you talk about your past dental experiences and your dental needs and desires. This will give Dr. Canady a complete understanding of your present state of health and enable our dental team to help you achieve the results you want.
A complete clinical evaluation includes:
- Gathering data about your chewing muscles, jaw joints and your bite, and how these components all work together.
- Evaluating the health of your gums and other soft parts of your mouth, looking for signs of disease, oral cancer and injury.
- Assessing the health of each individual tooth and the condition of existing fillings, crowns, implants, bonding, etc.
- Evaluating your teeth aesthetically so you understand all available options.
- Taking appropriate x-rays. These may include images of your teeth, the entire jaw and areas of concern.
Advanced Diagnostic Technology
To obtain the most precise diagnosis of your oral health, Dr. Canady will use a variety of advanced diagnostic tools.
Digital X-rays
The digital x-ray takes a picture of your teeth and surrounding tissues, then immediately projects a large, color-enhanced image onto a computer monitor in the treatment room. This detailed image provides us with a clear picture of your oral health. We can see any cracks, cavities, leaky restorations, or other problems earlier than we can with traditional x-rays. This early diagnosis allows us to treat problems while they are small and more affordable and comfortable to treat. Digital x-rays significantly decrease your exposure time to radiation.
DIAGNOdent
The DIAGNOdent is a hand-held laser that detects cavities before they can be seen instead of more conventional methods, such as traditional x-rays or visual exams. In fact, it can find 50 percent of the decay that goes undetected by radiography. Best yet, the laser does not expose you to radiation like an x-ray does. When we can spot problems while they’re small, we can restore them easily with more affordable and conservative treatment.
Intra-oral Camera
An intra-oral camera is a pen-sized camera that projects live video of your teeth and gum tissue onto a monitor in the treatment room. The image is magnified, allowing us to clearly see any cracks in your teeth, decay, leaking fillings or other problems. As a result, treatment can occur earlier than ever before.
Dental Treatment Plan
Dr. Canady will then recommend the appropriate care you are to receive through our hygiene department.
He may also recommend that you come in for a records appointment to gather more detailed information for future treatment.
Teeth Cleaning/Dental Hygiene
Following your Comprehensive Evaluation, your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and polished by one of our dental hygienists. You will also receive a fluoride treatment. We believe fluoride is just as important in protecting adult teeth as it is children’s teeth.
